Racing committee almost ready for DSC

Johan Weissenbach and Ferny Bakhuizen lead the sailing team during this edition of the DONG Energy Solar Challenge (DSC). As the participants prepare for the DSC in July this year, the sailing team is busy with the preparations for the event. They are responsible for the supervision and safety of the participants on the water.

‘We are mainly focused on the solar boats, but also with the surrounding’, said Weisenbach. ‘Ferny and I will inspect the route within two months. We also want to stay more out of the participants’ route during this edition. So at some places during the challenge we will follow them by car, instead of by boat.’

Before the DSC starts in July, the sailing team will exist of twelve volunteers. ‘Right now we have already have ten, with two more we will be complete’, says Bakhuizen. ‘Some volunteers need a license to operate the speedboat and they must be responsible enough, because a boat fast could be tough to contain. And besides that, in such a fast boat it’s also tempting to just throttle’, he added.
