The Delft University Nuon Solar Team had a difficult first race in the World Solar Challgenge for solar powered cars. Just after the start of the first leg of the race their solar powererd car Nuna5 stood still. Failure in a piece of equipment that optimalizes the flow of energy from the solar panels to the engine was the cause. The team thinks a broken wire is to blame for the failure. This didn’t stop the student to still have a good result, because after two days of racing they occupy the third position in the classification. The other dutch team, that of the University of Twente are fourth.

The World Solar Challenge is a race that is held every two years for cars that are powered by solar energy. The race is held in Australia and covers almost all of the country. The race will last untill october 31st and covers 3021 kilometres in total. Want to know more, just go to http://globalgreenchallenge.com.au or watch this space!
