Energy Sunday (8 July 2012)

 Sunday the 8th of July the DONG Energy Solar Challenge dominates the Prinsentuin in Leeuwarden. Participants have to prove that their boats can reach a minimum of 8 km/h (Challenge A and B) or 12 km/h (Top class) along the prologue distance of 10 kilometers. The route leads from Leeuwarden over the Dokkumer Ee where the boats turn after 5 kilometers. The finish is also in the Prinsentuin. The results of this prologue determine the starting order of the first racing day.
At 14.00 o’clock are the sprint races in the Prisentuin. The solar boats have to race at full speed over a distance of 150 meters. The fastest boat is honored afterwards.
This is the perfect day for the public to spot the solar boats. For participants this day is excellent to see how the competitors are doing.
